Tamil Short Film : Film Making Tips for Direction

Interested in making a Short Film?
Do you want to be a Independent Film Maker?

The Prime Difference between Feature Film and Indie Film is the Budget.
Tip : Try to make your First Short Film with Zero Budget. It will help you to learn the process while you are making mistakes and alternatively making corrections.

Apart from Budget, we need to look in many aspects.

The Film Making Process consists of 3 Stages:

1. Pre-Production
2. Production
3. Post-Production

But Before these Stages, there is the important stage which is the Idea or thought Stage.

You need to think and have an Idea about the short film you are planning to take. The Idea is the concept which you are planning for your short film.

Examples:
My short film should be about a Guy who dont have a leg and want to dance.
My short film should be a thriller and there should be only grey and brown colors in the frames.
My short film should be about a father and son and their relationship.

There is where your creativity comes and try to be as creative as possible.

Once the concept is ready, start with your Pre-Production work

Pre-Production:
This covers the script writing, casting and the location selection.

Production:
This is the shooting of the Film. Here the direction works with the Cinematographer, Artist, Art Directors.

Post-Production:
The means converting the Raw Footage into Film. Here the director works with the Editor, Sound engineers, music directors, dubbing artists.

The Last Stage is the Promotion or the Marketing of the Film.
short films mostly cant make money. There are just made to showcase their talents.
